This website contains information on lake tourism produced in the Lake Tourism Project (2001-2003). Even though the project has ended, the website is updated by the tourism cluster within the Savonlinna Institute for Regional Development and Research.

We want to thank everybody who contributed to this successful project - at least the feedback has been very positive. We hope that the project was only a beginning for international cooperation in lake tourism research and
development.

The final report of Lake Tourism Project with English summaries is now available in the section "Publications"!

Professor Michael C. Hall, Head of Tourism Department at the University of Otago, New Zealand, contributed to the project as a senior researcher on August 29th - September 18th. In addition to supervising our researchers, he familiarized himself with the local tourism businesses and attractions as well as lectured to the new students in tourism within the Finnish University Network for Tourism Studies.

Hall's previous visit to Savonlinna was in July when he attended the biannual conference of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism held for the first time in Finland.
